What is raw denim?
Raw denim (also called dry denim) is denim that has not been pre-washed or treated after dyeing. It starts stiff and dark, then fades uniquely to your body and habits over time. Pronto Denim specializes in raw and selvedge denim from Japan.
What is selvedge denim?
Selvedge denim is woven on traditional shuttle looms, creating a clean self-finished edge (often with a coloured line) that prevents fraying. It is a hallmark of high-quality Japanese denim.
What does ounce (oz) weight mean? Is 12oz or 21oz better?
Ounce (oz) is the weight of one square yard of denim. Lighter denim (12-14oz) is softer, cooler and easier to break in - great for beginners and hot weather. Heavyweight denim (18-21oz and above) is stiffer, more durable and gives dramatic fades. Neither is 'better' - it depends on your climate and how you wear it.
How do I wash and care for raw denim?
Wash raw denim as little as possible - typically after 3 to 6 months of regular wear. Turn it inside out, soak or machine-wash cold on a gentle cycle, then hang to dry. Washing less preserves the contrast of your fades.
What are fades and how do I get good ones?
Fades are the unique wear patterns - honeycombs behind the knees, whiskers at the hips, and stacks at the hem - that appear as raw denim loses indigo where it creases. Wear your jeans often before the first wash to build high-contrast fades.
What is the difference between sanforized and unsanforized (shrink-to-fit) denim?
Sanforized denim is pre-shrunk, so it barely shrinks after washing - the size you try on is your true size. Unsanforized (also called shrink-to-fit or loomstate) shrinks about 5 to 10 percent on the first wash, so you size up or soak it first.

fade คือรอยซีดที่เกิดตามจุดพับของผ้า เช่น honeycomb หลังเข่า, whisker ช่วงสะโพก และ stack ปลายขา เกิดจากสีครามหลุดตรงรอยยับ ใส่บ่อย ๆ ก่อนซักครั้งแรกจะได้รอยเฟดคอนทราสต์สูง

sanforized คือผ้าที่ผ่านการหดมาแล้ว ซักแล้วแทบไม่หด ไซซ์ที่ลองคือไซซ์จริง ส่วน unsanforized (หรือ shrink-to-fit / loomstate) จะหดราว 5-10% ตอนซักครั้งแรก จึงต้องเผื่อไซซ์หรือแช่น้ำก่อนใส่
