12 Months in Nudie Grim Tim Organic Dry Selvedge

One pair of Nudie Grim Tim Organic Dry Selvedge. Twelve months. One Pronto staff member who works on his feet every day. Here's how it faded.

Month 0: out of the box

Stiff. Dark. Smells like a textile mill (good). 13.5oz Japanese organic dry selvedge, Tate Mill in Okayama. Crotch slightly too snug, calf comfortable. The Grim Tim cut is slim-tapered, room for a thigh.

Month 3: break-in done

Whiskers starting at the front of the hip. Honeycombs forming behind the knees. The denim has molded to the body, no more crotch tension.

Month 6: first wash

Cold water, inside out, no detergent. Hung to dry. Lost some indigo (visible on the white sink). Slight shrink, comes back to original size after 2 wears.

Month 9: peak character

Whiskers sharp. Honeycombs clear. Right hip where the keys live, a fade pattern shaped exactly like a key ring. Left front pocket, wallet outline embossed in white-on-indigo.

Month 12: heirloom territory

Light blue across the seat, dark indigo at the cuffs, electric blue at the waist where the belt didn't quite cover. Two small repairs at the crotch (free, from Nudie). One pair of jeans, worn every day for a year.
